Imagine, sports enthusiasts interested in ocean pollution. Well, of course, it makes sense that those who surf or sports fish near shore are sensitive to pollution, but it is even better to see those that use the deep oceans…long distance sailors start to raise the issue.

As Mr. Clarey points out, the amount of plastic pollution in the oceans is projected to double by 2025. Of course, the problem is that plastic is eaten by ocean life…and causes problems throughout the food chain.

We really need to rethink our packaging. Plastic certainly has appropriate uses…but when we allow it to get into the ocean, we are harming not just our aesthetic view of that ocean, but the health of our largest ecosystem.
