Good soil is the key to plant health and as farmers in PA are learning, some of the old methods of farming are still good. Specifically using cover crops to enrich the soil.

For too many years we have used chemical fertilizers and additives in the name of good farming. In reality, these chemicals have helped to contribute to soil degradation, lost organic content and a lost opportunity to capture carbon.

As the article notes, cover crops help to capture and store more carbon and their addition to the farm helps to increase soil health.

Soil health = crop health = human health.
