New Jersey and Heat

As reported in the NYT on July 3, NJ is one of the states heating up the fastest…Given this summer, you may not be surprised…but the real question is why is this New Jersey heat happening? Well, no one knows for certain…but some reasons include our proximity to water…ie, warm air off the ocean over time. Or, of course, it is a combination of things, which is most likely…and one of them is the heat island effect in our communities.

As we pave more land, and decrease our tree cover, we increase the amount of heat that is absorbed by the surface, thus making things hotter.

It is up to each of us to do what we can to reduce the impact of a warming planet.

Here are some very simple, if not necessarily simple to implement ideas.

    Thank you for sharing again. I just planted three trees in my lot. Hopefully to provide some shade, improve the air quality and beautify the area.
