I am not certain why there needs to be another article on the value of compost. Well, maybe I do. We are slow learners. Among its many other benefits, compost helps conserve water!

We have known for a long time about the value of compost. Notwithstanding the record rains this spring in California, and our current wet weather, if we simply utilized compost effectively, we would increase the ability of soil to retain moisture and thus reduce our need to use potable water for our ornamental and food plants.

Of course, we need to be able to make the compost and that means siting facilities to do this. See my earlier post on that issue.

The point is, buy compost!
