Can Old Buildings Fight Climate Change?

In a heart lifting story about old federal government buildings, we see that old government buildings can help fight climate change by simply (well not so simple) being refurbished with energy efficiency in mind.

President Biden’s executive order directing that the government become carbon neutral by 2050, and federal buildings be carbon neutral by 2045 (As reported in the Washington Post), shows that with some thinking, creativity and effort, we can really reduce our energy consumption and carbon output.

With over 8400 buildings, the federal government can really show the way forward.

Of course, if the Republican Party has its way, this will all end. So much for the party of fiscal responsibility…In just one area with 18 buildings, we will save $2 million dollars each year…That is at today’s dollars…Yes, there is a long payback..in this case about 40 years…but that is short thinking…

The money spent created jobs, which paid taxes, created industrial activity and that created taxes…

Think long term. A Kilowatt saved is better than any Kilowatt generated. AND IT MAKE US MORE ENERGY INDEPENDENT…
