Nature Abhors a Vacuum….States and Companies are Bypassing the Leadership Vacuum in Washington on Cars

Who would have thought that the major players in the Auto industry and the State of California would actually agree on something? Well, they have agreed on a compromise that insures that mileage efficiency standards for cars will increase over the next several years. More importantly, they have bypassed the Administration in Washington whose sole goal is to destroy every environmental rule that exists.

Essentially, by signing this agreement, Ford, Honda, Volkswagen and BMW NA have set the stage to make a car that meets the higher goals…and one that would be sold in Canada and the Northeast as well. From a practical standpoint, it means that the majority of the market is now poised to keep the higher standards in place…with some reasonable compromise.

Why would they do this? Well, if nothing else, companies are practical….Two separate standards for cars and a protracted legal battle does no one any good. This sets the stage for a rational, national standard.
