Wasted Food…The Saga Continues
As reported in the Times, about 30% of all food that we have in the United States is thrown away or wasted food…Think about that…30%…It is the single largest volume of material sent to landfills and resource recovery plants in the country!!!!!!!!
When it decomposes in landfills, it releases as much green house gas as dozens of coal fired power plants…
Thanks to President Biden’s White House, there is a step forward in addressing the amount of food waste that we send to landfills or waste in general. While not as aggressive as I might like, it is a step. The goals is to cut wasted food by 50%..The plan is to fund research that could either extend the life of food on shelves, or help people learn how to reduce food waste.
I think that this is a start…but it is a small start…There is much that we can do on a personal level that must be done…
New Jersey has taken a lead on this issue and even our state has a long way to go…
But, a start is a start.
