Yes, Warehouses Cause Pollution
As reported in the NY Times, a NASA funded study that tracked pollutants from space has shown that the newly built massive warehouses cause pollution, and the corresponding truck traffic that goes with them does indeed increase air pollution to the surrounding neighborhoods. Worse, the NOx that is emitted is known to increase asthma and more in the way of health problems.
This is a real issue. Perhaps worse, these warehouses are often placed in areas where people already have health issues due to an over abundance of pollution. Yes, it is an Environmental Justice Issue.
Of course, it is conceivable that we can reduce that pollution with the faster roll out of electric over the road and local delivery trucks. But that is not what exists today.
We need to be more cognizant that warehouses cause pollution and think about what and where we build.
