I work with certain counties from time to time to coordinate their Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) events. These events require that residents bring their HHW to a central facility where it is collected from their vehicles and properly recycled or disposed of in an environmentally secure manner. I wanted to share a recent story that proves people do care about the environment.

We had a person take an Uber to the event because she did not have a car and wanted to make certain that the hazardous materials in her apartment were handled correctly. She then had to call an Uber to come pick her up. Now, that is dedication.

It was cold that day, we asked her to rest inside. While she clearly did not have to do this…there is no real law that requires homeowners to dispose of HHW in a special event, her dedication was really quite inspiring. I suggested that next year she get together with her condo board and see if people with cars could get together to come over as a group and then go have lunch.

I did get her some M&M’s..it was the least that I could do.

The point here is that people care…and in light of all of the negative things that we read about these days, it is nice to see!!!!

One small step does matter.
